Siemens is to be at the forefront of the GSM-R Asset & Evolution Management Conference which is being held at the Paris headquarters of the UIC on 10th and 11th September 2013.

Organised by the International Union of Railways (UIC) in cooperation with the GSM-R Industry Group (IG), the conference aims to provide information regarding GSM-R’s current status, evolution and strategy for the future as well as demonstrating GSM-R technology and applications.

Siemens is presenting, demonstrating and exhibiting – reinforcing its commitment to maximising its customers’ investment in GSM-R by exploring and developing applications for the delivery of communication systems optimised for the operational and customer environment.

Driver Advisory System (DAS) real time guidance for train drivers

Siemens is showcasing its Driver Advisory System (DAS), the first of many applications which can be added to existing on-train cab radios.

DAS provides real time guidance to train drivers about the optimum route speed and driving approach during each journey. Utilising timetable data, speed limits, train characteristics and positioning information, routes are profiled, simulated and then provided as a real time advisory to the driver. The DAS application is designed to run from the existing cab radio and driver control panel, which maximises the benefit of the original on-train cab radio investment.

Cab Radio Remote Management Terminal (CRMT)

Siemens is also demonstrating its cab radio remote management terminal (CRMT). Providing direct communication with the cab radio from anywhere within GSM-R coverage, users are able to remotely update software and ‘phonebooks. The CRMT maintains a database record of all cab radios in the network, recording the stock number, cab radio serial number, software release, ‘phonebook version and time stamp. The CRMT enables remote implementation of EIRENE software upgrades, which reduces the cost of the upgrade and also enables remote asset tracking and maintenance.

Meet the experts

Visit the Siemens exhibition stand to view its latest innovations. The seminar programme includes a presentation by Siemens’ Head of Sales and Marketing and Strategic Product Planning, Ciro De Col, on 10th September at 11.10am. This will look at maximising the cab radio asset and how the GSM-R cab radio can be utilised as an asset that is capable of running multiple applications, reinforcing Siemens commitment to maximising its customers’ investment in GSM-R and developing communications systems optimised for the operational environment.
