Clevedon-based Aquarian Cladding Systems Ltd is the perfect example of a twenty-first century Tiger business, having achieved remarkable growth since its formation in 2007 and become an established presence in the UK’s construction sector.

As its name suggests, the business supplies a range of cladding solutions, working closely with architects and contractors to identify projects that would benefit from off-site manufactured, energy-efficient systems and their fast-track construction.

Characterised by fast growth and strong profits, Tiger businesses have a strong business proposition and bring products to the market that are faster, better or more convenient for customers. They also become expert marketers, using every opportunity to build their brand and reputation and to drive sales. Most Tigers have at their heart a leader who is passionate about the market and the company’s customers and products. Aquarian is no exception.

Established by CEO Paul Richards, the business has come a long way in a relatively short space of time: “In the early months, I ran the business out of an office at home, working all hours to build something I passionately believe in. Now we have a sales team of highly-experienced professionals backed by a team of technical support staff all working in our modern offices in the heart of Clevedon.

“We are working with some of the biggest names in the construction industry and some really interesting and challenging projects. For example, we’re just completing the new Orchard Heights development for the Unite Group which is on the former Bristol Ice Skating Rink over the O2 Academy in Trenchard Street and last year were involved in the award-winning Apley House development for the Royal United Hospital in Bath.”

In its last financial year, the company’s turnover increased by an impressive 62% on the previous year, taking the total figure for the year to just under £2 million. Profits increased at a similar rate and 2015 looks like being another strong year of similar growth, with the business on course for an annual turnover of approximately £3.5 million.

The continued growth is driving the business to strengthen its market position, as Paul explained: “Although we are delighted with our results so far, we appreciate that we are really only scratching the surface of the UK market and it will take a lot of hard work to keep pushing the business forward at this pace. We will continue to invest in exceptional people, cladding systems and marketing, as well as more testing and certification of our products and systems by the UK’s leading test-bodies, to ensure we build on our success to date.”
